This is a fun one, as the Carolina Hurricanes granted The Athletic access to their draft day and free agency proceedings last week. It’s a very detailed, and some redacted, look at how the Canes conducted their draft and free agency pursuits. One interesting bit came up, as the Rangers and Canes spoke about a possible Lias Andersson trade.
Carolina had the 41st and 53rd picks in the 2nd round of the 2020 NHL Draft, and there was some serious consideration. Per The Athletic, the trade talks ballooned into something much larger as well. Eventually the Lias Andersson trade fell through for the Canes.
Andersson went on to be traded to LA for the 60th pick.
