Rangers sign Alexis Lafreniere to entry level contract

The NY Rangers have signed top pick Alexis Lafreniere to an entry level contract.

The contract is basically a max ELC. It comes with a $925,000 cap hit with $2.85 million in potential bonuses. If Lafreniere hits all his bonuses (he won’t), the contract would be a $3.775 million cap hit. Lafreniere will wear #13 with the Rangers.

Signing Lafreniere to his ELC was a foregone conclusion this offseason. It was a matter of when. He will be in the opening night lineup.

  • I don’t know the contract details, but I don’t see why he won’t hit all his bonuses. I think all he has to do is hit any one Schedule B bonus (presumably the Calder) and four Schedule A bonuses (and one of them, making the post-season rookie all-star team, seems a slam dunk if you win the Calder). Things like 20 goals, 35 assists, top six in forward ice time don’t seem out of reach at all.

He is of course not a slam dunk to win the Calder by any means, but shouldn’t he be one of the leading contenders – and I suspect if he does win it, he will get the full bonus amount.

    • Superstition should play no role, obviously this kid believes in himself and not numerology. To me that is a real good thing. The silliest thing in sports, indeed in life, are superstitions. So ridiculous.
