Welcome to New York!

Martin replaces Lindy Ruff, who departed for New Jersey this summer. He comes with a solid reputation as a defensive coach who gets the most out of his team defensively.
Martin will likely be involved in the defensive side of things, which again replaces the role Ruff had. While a head coach in the 90’s and 2000’s, Martin ran a 1-2-2 forecheck and a zone defense. While with Pittsburgh, his teams defensive results were better than the sum of its parts, a tremendous feat when looking at the roster.
Jacques Martin is likely to be a welcomed addition as the NY Rangers assistant coach. Hopefully the team takes the next step defensively.
