Rangers grant Florida Panthers permission to interview Chris Drury

The Florida Panthers have been given permission to interview current NY Rangers assistant GM Chris Drury, per Elliotte Friedman. Florida’s GM role became available when they did not renew the contract of Dale Tallon.

Drury became the AGM of the Rangers in 2016 and has spent four years backing up GM Jeff Gorton. Drury was charged with GMing the Hartford Wolf Pack and, more importantly, revamping that team and clubhouse from the train wreck it was.

The Rangers granting permission to the Panthers to interview Chris Drury is interesting. Last year, the Rangers denied the Minnesota Wild permission to speak with Drury. They also denied the Buffalo Sabres permission in 2017.

  • What has he fixed? Day bought out, Lias & Kravtsov ran away, Hartford ended the season on the schneid.

    • not to mention that Drury the Wolfpack GM never YELLED in Gorton’s ear to promote and give Ryan Graves a shot in training camp. Instead, Drury trades Graves to Colorado and we know what he’s done since getting there. You have to think twice if you are Florida whether Drury is a good talent evaluator?

        • As a die-hard Rangers fan like you and everyone else on this site, this frustrates me like hell. The organization HAD a LD who would have been the perfect partner for Trouba and NO ONE (GM Drury, Gorton, D-coach Gord Murphy) recognized it. Instead, Rangers are going to lose a few more draft picks and/or prospects to replace Graves!! BAD asset management!

  • How many times can an organization deny a person the ability to improve his lot in life. Look, if he is offered the position, he will be replaced by someone else who can do as well a job as Chris did. Good to see other teams looking at our management team, and think highly enough to consider them to run their operation!!!!!!!!
