NY Rangers Play In Round Game 1 Open Thread: Time to make a run

For the first time in three years, the Rangers will play meaningful hockey after the trade deadline. Of course, this is also the first time the Rangers will play hockey in August, but that’s neither here nor there. The Rangers and Hurricanes kick off roughly 12 straight hours of hockey.

The Rangers and Canes are probably the most intriguing matchup in the play-in round, as both teams have the potential to make long runs. The Rangers are very strong at the top of their lineup, and their goaltending makes them a tough out. Carolina is deep with good process and can wear down most opponents.

  • 20 minutes of hockey left.

Come in boys, put together something special in Toronto in this third period.

  • Well said Sam Rosen Rangers spent this game chasing scoreboard ……Who to blame ???????…….Only themselves (Their 1st period performance ).

  • The Rangers started too slowly, basically because it seemed that Panarin started slowly? At least that it is how it appeared. In order to win three games they will need to figure out how to handle the Canes’ forecheck.

    • The top 6 was nonexistent, 5 on 5 and on the PP. Kreider, not following up on Kakko’s shot on the 2 on 1, even though was at the end of a shift, was disgraceful. He basically gave up on the play.

Sounds like a typical Ranger playoff game.

And DQ darlings Howden and Staal were atrocious. Howden can keep taking penalties with nary a punishment.

Panarin was invisible, based on what he usually is.

          • Nice to see Hank play well, but wow that was a disjointed, uninspired effort by the team. Need a heckuva lot more from the top 6 and we definitely need to shut down that Staal guy…🙄
