As of this testing update, 35 NHL players have tested positive for COVID-19. This stays consistent with their 6% positive rate, which is apparently acceptable to the NHL in their Return to Play plans. Just a reminder that two teams have already had to suspend operations due to COVID-19 infections.
It’s interesting how one NBA player can test positive and the entire sports world can shut down in March. Yet in a desperation move to restart the league, 6% of players testing positive means full steam ahead. Things are fluid, and we know more about the virus now than we did in March. However we still don’t have a viable treatment or vaccine yet. We also don’t know the long-term effects of this virus.
There are rumblings that the players aren’t overly enthused about resuming the season. Many fear long-term health impacts and putting their families at risk. All of this makes you wonder what the drop-dead numbers are for the NHL before they revisit their plans to return to play. The NHL will continue to provide COVID-19 testing updates on a weekly basis.
