Former Rangers defenseman Kevin Lowe has been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Lowe spent four seasons with New York, putting up a line of 10-38-48 in 217 games. Not known for his offense, Lowe was a steadying depth presence on the blue line. He was a key cog in the 1994 Stanley Cup run paired with Sergei Zubov.

Lowe is now the third defenseman from that team to be elected to the Hall of Fame, joining Zubov and Brian Leetch. It doesn’t get spoken about much, but that team had some serious blue line depth. Thankfully that depth wasn’t tinkered with at the trade deadline.

Lowe also spent 14 years with the Oilers and was another key piece in their dynasty in the 1980’s. He won five Cups there, making it six total for his career. The Rangers acquired Lowe in December of 1992 in exchange for Roman Oksiuta and a 3rd round pick (Alexander Kerch).

Congrats to Kevin Lowe and the rest of the Hall of Fame inductees: Jarome Iginla, Marian Hossa, Doug Wilson, Kim St. Pierre, and Ken Holland (builder).
