Rangers closing in on Michigan State center Patrick Khodorenko

Rangers rumored to be landing prized NCAA free agent

It looks like the New York Rangers are closing in on their second NCAA free agent, but the first big prize in Michigan State center Patrick Khodorenko.

The Rangers are very thin at center, so this makes a lot of sense for the Blueshirts. The 6′, 210 lb 21 year old is one of the coveted NCAA free agents, with many surprised he lasted through his senior season without a contract.

For the last three years, Khodorenko has put up at least 32 points with Michigan State, topping out at 18-19-37 in his junior season. His senior season had him at 16-17-33.

This is being widely viewed as a big win for the Rangers in the NCAA free agency period. Nothing is a guarantee, but the Rangers do seem to do well with these kind of signings.

  • Good looking player…Hopefully he is another Foxy type High IQ player…. in a centerman position…..very nice

  • For sure the Rangers should sign Khodorenko. They also have another college pivot prospect Morgan Barron in the pipeline who is also having a solid season.
Strome and Chytil haven’t figured out how to play in their own end of the ice and Lias seems content to play in the SHL.

  • Two college FA’s picked up for nothing, with Miller and possibly Lundkvist pondering whether or not to jump ship where they are and come to the Rangers. Interesting times, to say the least.

  • Always good to add talent at no cost other than hard work (no trade or draft pick required). Whether he is NHL caliber is another story. Let him mix it up a little at Hartford so we see what we have.
