Filip Chytil's Rangers future

The NY Rangers fell to the NY Islanders for the first time this season by a score of 4-2. The Rangers actually played pretty well, but they had some bad puck bounces and couldn’t get enough past Thomas Greiss. Penalties hurt them too, as their stick penalties are continuing to mount. Let’s jump into a glimpse at my brain during the game.

  • I can’t even remember the last time I got the Rangers lineup right. David Quinn just doesn’t announce anything until 30 minutes before each game. This time around it’s an Artemi Panarin injury and Pavel Buchnevich to the second line. I’m trying, folks.
  • By the way, this lineup is exactly what the Rangers would look like if they didn’t sign Panarin. This is almost the exact lineup they’d have. Think on that and how different the lineup looks without him. It goes beyond the scoring, it’s the fear factor of the lineup.
  • The Rangers really seem to be controlling the game so far – which is a little surprising given the lack of Panarin, but then again they’ve been really controlling games lately. This dates back 6-7 weeks now.
  • And there’s the bad luck goal we all expect. Ryan Lindgren is doing just fine, and has a puck go off his leg and now it’s in the back of the net.
  • More stick penalties. The Rangers must be up there among the league leaders in stick penalties. Strome is up to 20 minors on the season, 4th most among forwards in the NHL.
  • That immediately turns into a powerplay goal, because of course it does. The Rangers almost scored, then put blinders on the coverage the other way.
  • Taking a game break for dinner. Considering I suffer from hangry, it’s important I eat.
  • Good thing I ate because this is a rough game for anyone named Ryan. Another goal off Lindgren’s leg.
  • Well that’s a goal – good to see the Rangers fighting back.
  • Or not. Death to the offside challenge.
  • Typical Barry Trotz team – backing off with a lead in the third and making the Rangers go 200 feet to score. There is very little offense from the Isles to start the third.
  • And another goal after the Isles, backing off, force the Rangers into an icing.
  • Wow that was a bad play by Brady Skjei. Don’t get fancy in the defensive zone. Kicked the puck and missed. No chance for the Rangers to recover after that one.
  • This is a dull period. Minus Mayfield spearing Lemieux just now.
  • A double minor – get something quick and then another one quick and it’s at least a game.
  • That’s the quick one. Get another. Plus it’s a Buchnevich goal, getting that monkey off his back.
  • Ohhh an empty net for this powerplay. Ballsy.
  • And it pays off! Kreider!
  • And now Kreider’s stick snaps on his rush. That’s his spot to score from too.
  • Delay of game for the Isles! Get another! With the pulled goalie – still love this move.
  • Well at least the third was interesting.
