igor shesterkin

The NY Rangers have recalled goalie Igor Shesterkin from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. The first year North American pro has been absolutely stellar in Hartford, sporing a 1.93 GAA and a .932 SV%, earning himself All Star honors. His 15-4-3 record has helped propel Hartford to the top of the Atlantic Division.

For now, the Rangers will carry three goaltenders: Shesterkin, Alex Georgiev, and Henrik Lundqvist. I am going to question the timing on this, as the Rangers have just four games coming up before nine days off for the All Star break. Shesterkin will definitely get a start in these four games. I looked at the wrong week. The Rangers have seven games. My guess is Shesterkin gets a few starts and the Rangers shuttle him back and forth for weekend games in Hartford.

My mind immediately went to “Georgiev is going to get traded,” but this could just be a simple injury/illness replacement. Doesn’t matter, they wouldn’t recall Shesterkin without any plans to start him in a game or two.
