Rookie goalie Igor Shesterkin, recalled this morning, will start tomorrow against Colorado. This was confirmed by David Quinn, and Henrik Lundqvist will be the backup. Alex Georgiev will be a scratch as the Rangers carry three goalies for the time being.
The Rangers have seven games (1/7, 1/9, 1/11, 1/13, 1/16, 1/19, 1/21) between now and their ten day break for the All Star Game and their bye week beginning on 1/22. The Hartford Wolf Pack play six times (1/8, 1/10, 1/11, 1/15, 1/17, 1/18) in that span. My guess is Shesterkin will go back and forth from Hartford while the Rangers rotate all three goalies evenly through this stretch.
Based on that, I think Shesterkin gets the following starts:
- 1/7 (NHL)
- 1/10 (AHL)
- 1/13 (NHL)
- 1/15 (AHL)
- 1/17 (AHL)
- 1/21 (NHL)
That leaves Hank and Georgiev to split the 1/9, 1/11, 1/16, and 1/19 starts, getting two a piece. Just an educated guess on my part though, nothing is confirmed.
