NY Rangers Game 27 Open Thread: The Breadman returns to Columbus

Artemi Panarin returns to Columbus

The Rangers are in Columbus tonight to kick off a pretty rough stretch for them. They play four of the next five on the road, including another three-in-four starting tonight. The Blue Jackets have good process and decent possession/expected-goals numbers, but really lack high-end skill and goaltending to make it work. Yes, skill and goaltending still matter.

The Rangers have better skill and goaltending, but the process is still a mess. They’ve been better lately, and a lot has to do with Filip Chytil’s emergence and Mika Zibanejad’s return. They’ve been getting 47% of the expected goals share since Chytil was recalled, which is much better than the 40% prior.

  • Brendan Lemieux is a gamer, plays the game the old school way. Tremendous under the radar trade by Gorton. He always comes to play, sticks up for his teammates, finishes his checks, gets under the skin of the opposing team and can score . I will always remember him standing up to Tom Wilson of the Caps, even though he was giving up about 25 lbs and 4 inches in height. Ranger fan base remember that moment , I know his teammates do. He reminds me of Adam Graves! Go Rangers!!

  • Georgiev saved the game during the PK where Shjei took that poor penalty late in the game. Good win for the boys………

  • Georgie! Georgie! What a game he had?! He’s the real deal. Not a Talbot or a Raanta…think Bishop! How do you trade this guy for a second or third round pick????
