Vitali Kravtsov survived the Rangers final roster cuts, for now.

The AHL assignment clause agreed upon by the Rangers and Vitali Kravtsov has reared its ugly head.

Today was the first day Kravtsov could act on his assignment clause, and he wasted no time heading home. Obviously upset over not making the Rangers out of camp, Kravtsov had a rough go of it with the Hartford Wolf Pack, notching just one assist in five games while also being a healthy scratch early on.

This isn’t really a surprise, since it has been a possibility since his reassignment to the AHL out of camp. With Filip Chytil clearly ahead of him in the recall list, it was a matter of time. It’s tough to fault a 19 year old kid who misses home and doesn’t speak English to act on this clause, although it is frustrating because he’s so skilled and a big part of the future in New York.

It is worth noting that the KHL season ends in February, so it’s likely Kravtsov will return to the Pack then.
