Rangers will not name a captain this season

The NY Rangers will not name a captain for this season

In a bit of a surprising twist, Larry Brooks has noted that the Rangers will not name a captain for this season. They will again go with four alternate captains.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as the Rangers have been hinting that Mika Zibanejad would be named captain. He had been the focus of all their promo material in the preseason, so the logic was there. But for now the Rangers will be with four alternates.

  1. You cannot give the “C” to Krieder, so your only choice is Zibby. Maybe they want him to play a bit this year, then give him the “C” once Krieder is moved.

  2. Looks like the 3rd line is Howden centering Names and Fast and the 4th line is Andersson centering Lemieux and D. Smith. So I would suspect that the first 2 lines get 75% of the minutes. Not too sure is we should expect any offense from the 3rd or 4th lines.

  3. They will probably wait for the dust to settle on Kreider, if Kreider gets resigned he might just get the nod over Zibby …. also an outside chance the Rangers will wait a year and then make a decision between Zibby, Panarin and Trouba (assuming Kreider isn’t here to be in the mix).

  4. Im a little surprised by this. Tanto seems correct, but not sure if Panarin’s apparently limited English would be an issue. I want to see Trouba develop into an important leader for this team and think he will be in the discussion.

  5. I felt like I agreed with nearly everything being done until the last week or two, now it’s completely flipped.
