A recap of what happened while we were down

What better way to start off our self dubbed “Stupid Server Issues And Now We Are Going To Overload You With Content Week” than with a recap of basically everything that has happened in the past two weeks. Most of this will get an in depth review too.

  • The Rangers’ farm system was ranked as the best in the league by Corey Pronman at The Athletic.
  • The Baby Blueshirts took 5th place at the 2019 Traverse City Tournament.
  • Former Ranger Tom Laidlaw will be on Survivor (cool). Former Ranger Mark Pavelich was arrested (not so cool).
  • The training camp roster was released, with notable PTOs going to Joe Morrow and Micheal Haley.
  • Matt Beleskey was not on the training camp roster, and reported directly to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. Most likely due to his contract.
  • Brendan Lemieux inked a one-year, $925,000 deal to end his holdout and reported to camp on time.
  • Tony DeAngelo remains unsigned and neither side seems to be budging. The Rangers aren’t moving off their qualifying offer, and DeAngelo wants more term and money.
  • Artemi Panarin was named the 21st best player in the league by the NHL Network. Lists!
  • The first seven cuts at camp were made, with notable cuts being Ryan Gropp, Ty Ronning, and Ville Meskanen. Nico Gross and Hunter Skinner were assigned to the OHL, which was expected.
  • Perhaps the biggest: The NHL and NHLPA both declined to open the CBA for negotiations, locking in the current deal through the 2021-2022 season. They both avoided a lockout and kicked the can down the road. I’ll take it.

  1. On Tony D: He should get his butt in camp. This is not a good strategy for a guy who is still proving himself and could use lots of reps in practic scrimmages.

    1. If he doesn’t get to camp soon, he’s going to become irrelevant. Fox and Trouba will make up for the offense he would have provided, and the “next man up” will be better defensively. On top of that, holding out in these circumstances (having a very limited track record and no leverage) will cement his questionable reputation, which he had begun repairing very nicely, so fewer teams will be interested in picking him up.

  2. BSB looks Great! Nice job Dave.
Let’s get this party started… going to be a good year. LGR!!!
