Rangers announce lineup for first preseason game

The Rangers have announced their lineup for the first preseason game tonight against the Devils, and the lines look super:

Most of the attention is going to be on the top line of Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Kaapo Kakko. There’s a legitimate chance that winds up as the top line and will be a lot of fun to watch. David Quinn has stressed that the 1RW spot will go to Pavel Buchnevich, but there’s a chance this winds up as the top line at some point this season.

Let’s not sleep on the second line with Chris Kreider and Vitali Kravtsov flanking Lias Andersson. Lias is going to get a look at the 2C role, and all signs are pointing to him being a legitimate candidate, especially with his strong showing thus far in camp.

On the blue line, Brady Skjei and Jacob Trouba were the worst kept top-pair secret we’ve had in a while. My focus is on Libor Hajek and Adam Fox as a pair. That could be the third pair, or possibly even the second pair.

  1. The bottom 6 forwards dressed for tonight’s game are probably all fighting for one spot.

      1. of those six players, I think Boo probably has the best chance of making the team

  2. it will be good to see Kakko playing on the top line. And it’s so good to see The Rangers back on the ice.

  3. For those of us who are outside of the MSG viewing area, tonight’s game is being streamed on ESPN+

  4. What? Where is Jesper Fast? Not on the first line?
    Just kidding.

    1. Fast is so good he doesn’t even need training camp. He’ll be Top 6 come opening night. 😉

      1. Heck, Fast doesn’t even need to warm up. He’ll roll out of bed, lace up the skates and be ready to go

  5. I get they want to try out different looks during the preseason, but if Buch Artie and Mika are going to be the anointed first line to open the season, why not get them as much time together as possible under game conditions before the regular season begins?

    1. It’s just the 1st game … they get practice time and I’m pretty sure they’ll probably play 3 of the last 5 exhibition games together, that should be enough. Besides, DQ probably wants to start Kakko off in the most positive manner … let’s see what the boy can do with high end NHL talent.
