jacob trouba

Jacob Trouba and the Rangers have agreed to a deal, avoiding arbitration. The seven year deal at an $8 million cap hit makes Trouba, who is currently the Blueshirts’ top defender, the highest paid defenseman on the team. The Rangers acquired Trouba in June in exchange for Neal Pionk and a 1st round pick at the draft.

The deal for Trouba is not a discount, the Rangers are paying full price for his services. That is fine, and relatively expected. I’ll take the cheap acquisition cost and the market value contract all day everyday. Considering Tyler Myers got $7 million a season, this actually seems like a bargain for a 1RD who will see significant powerplay time.

The Blueshirts have three remaining RFAs: Pavel Buchnevich (arbitration), Brendan Lemieux, and Tony DeAngelo.
