Jimmy Vesey pleasant surprise for the Rangers

The Rangers have cleared some cap space, sending Jimmy Vesey to Buffalo for a 2021 third round pick. This is the second time the Sabres have traded a 3rd round pick for Vesey, sending one to Nashville in 2016 for his rights. Vesey eventually turned them down and signed with the Rangers.

In his 240 games with the Rangers, Vesey played primarily a bottom-six role, putting up 50-40-90 while looking relatively lost without the puck. He did have a penchant for scoring goals though, eclipsing 15 in each of his first three seasons.

The move clears $2.275 million in cap space for the Rangers, which is a big win in the Artemi Panarin sweepstakes.
