With their second 2nd round pick (#58 from Tampa in the Ryan McDonagh trade) the Rangers selected Karl Henriksson from Sweden’s Frolunda. A playmaker, Henriksson put up 13-36-49 in 48 games in Sweden’s SuperElit (one step below the SHL). The 5’9″, 175 lb center projects to be a middle-six center if he hits his potential.
Henriksson is a solid two-way center who is very strong on the forecheck. He’s a product of Sweden, so he has good hockey IQ and has a lot of that two-way, strong skating skill set that we expect. His size is a concern, but he will put on strength as he gets older.
Henriksson is lightning-quick, and is one of those guys that if he makes it, can be a steal of the draft, even in the 2nd round.
