Game 65: Another Sunday matinee against Washington

The Rangers are playing Washington tonight for the second straight Sunday matinee game. Seriously, we just did this last week. The Blueshirts have another one of these at the end of the month against Philly. I guess those fine folks at NBC didn’t care to check out team strength before booking these?

Anywho, Libor Hajek stays in the lineup this afternoon after a pretty strong performance the other night. That’s a good thing. If the kid stays steady, then that’s good! It’s only one game, but hey, we need things to be happy about with our Rangers. Plus Brendan Lemieux looks like he’s going to fit right in!

  1. If you add Chytil, Howden, Kravtsov and a UFA signing like Panarin to that forward group, then for starters subtract Smith and Brickley (who hasn’t been a bad addition at all, but best as a spare forward), that isn’t a bad group of forwards at all — as long as someone can establish himself as a bona fide 2nd line center.

    1. Yeah, we’re moving in the right direction, it’s a start. Like you said, need to add some elite talent at some point. And of course, we’ll need to reorganize a bit up front — Vesey has played well, but he’s not the stuff 1st lines are made of.

Like today’s prediction, Dave, could be that type of game. I’ll toss a cap if we hit this one!

  2. Gotta miss this one , road trip for the second side and a bunch of OxyContin/Oxycodynes coming right up ! Fill me Sittoo!

    1. Georg was outstanding but make sure you watch the shootout when he “threw” his stick at Ovi. Definitely taking that emulation of Hank, the ultimate stick thrower, a tad too far. ? He’s the only reason they got a point. Feel better soon my friend…

      1. I’ll check it out Tuesday when I get back ! Should be quick and easy like the first side … Thanks for the well wishes ?

  3. I am beginning to see the light. This team is being molded in Quinn’s image. Outstanding job for a first year coach. I like the grit that this Lemieux kid brings. Now if we get another D man who brings that type of nastiness to the back line, we are going to be tough to play against down the Rd. I like that the team is staying steady in the rebuilding mode. . Let’s Go Rangers

    1. Welcome to the light Bobby ?

But seriously, You are right. Quinn is molding this team into one that is hard to play against. He is doing an outstanding job. Heck, even Fast was giving little shots to Tom Wilson. Nice to see.

      1. Fans whining about Quinn wanting Buch to play with more of an an edge is delusional. When Buch plays that way, he’s a force.

AND Quinn is now relying on Buch like he does Names.

Time to add talent at the top of the roster.

          1. Buch and Names have been great lately.

Krav, Shesty, and Rykov will fit in nicely.

  4. Rangers will never get a home grown elite player. Thus the Rangers will win one cup evey 70 years, We got 50 more to go fellas

    1. Maybe they need to quit playing the kid , he’s been good the past 5 games

  5. I loved the genuine raucous crowd reaction after the Rangers killed the penalty with only two minutes left. The mood of the fanbase also seems legitimately optimistic.

    1. That was a good moment, but overall the crowd felt underwhelming to me, should have been up and rocking the place after some of Georgie’s stops.

Once again, we got exposed for a portion of the 60, but kept at it and made it a game vs a top team. This feels totally different than how last year ended with that stiff AV still behind the bench.

      1. “That was a good moment, but overall the crowd felt underwhelming to me, should have been up and rocking the place after some of Georgie’s stops.”

Sunday afternoon crowds have a lot of kids in the audience, and are usually more subdued.

I was at the Tampa game and the crowd was rocking.

          1. Another entertaining game. Georgie battled hard made some nice stops. The kids are improving every game and Tony D keeps maturing…
