Game 52: 11F and 7D again, but it’s a skilled 11F!

The Rangers may not be coming out of their break with the best record, but they are certainly playing their best hockey since October. The Blueshirts have had three straight games of dominating control, and while you can pass off the Flyers and Devils games as bad opponents, they controlled the Tampa game as well. That’s cause for optimism, especially with the woeful Kings coming to town.

More cause for optimism: David Quinn is dressing his best 18 skaters available tonight. It will be 11 forwards and 7 defensemen, but Tony DeAngelo will be that 7th defenseman, possibly skating on the fourth line regularly. For all of his maturity issues, DeAngelo over McLeod is a major net-positive on the ice.

Is Buch on the 2nd or 4th line? Tony D is a Fwd tonight?

Ilya Kovalchuk has 10 goals in 41 games, with only 92 shots taken. Only two more years at $6.25 million annually to go for the Kings!

Thankful the Rangers passed on him.

Crazy Prediction 2: Chytil will be up with Hayes at some point, when Quinn finally tires of having offense from only 1 line.

Well there’s always hope that he has this revelation. I find it takes his stubborn nature a bit of time to process what is painfully obvious to many of us. 😉

Hmm, what a surprise that Chytil-Hayes-Names were together when McQ scored. Imagine that. Maybe if coach Q listened to us he’d process things a little faster.

I don’t care how many good plays DeAngelo makes, I “hear” he’s immature!

Why don’t you think maturity, or lack there of, is an issue?

It depends, all I hear are rumors and innuendo, nothing even remotely specific. It’s a little hard to judge this “immaturity” … what I do see however tells me that his teammates appreciate and like him. I see genuine celebration for when he makes a good play. It makes me suspect about all the character assassination. If the issue is one of barking at the refs/linesmen or what we witnessed tonight with the back and forth, I can tolerate some of that for the time being. What really bothers me though is that the punishment seems excessive and counterproductive. I don’t fall in line with the tough love stance — especially when it doesn’t seem to work too well on certain personalities (Buch and ADA).

Well that loss is on Hank. Team played well. Not good D on tying goal but Hank let it squeak right through. I hate when they lose to the Kings…

… then again it’s the best result we could have legitimately hoped for … they controlled the game and only got 1 point out of it. Losing doesn’t bother me this year as long as they look good doing it. 😉

Agree tanto – enjoyed this game. Good game. No excuses, but zebras missed a lot of calls late, especially against Names, he got mugged, and the blatant high stick on McQ seconds before the game winner. From my view, I thought Hank may have had an opportunity to clear the puck behind the net when it was sent in originally on the game winner, but hey, let the heartbreaks happen now – its all good, we’ll be breaking theirs soon – and when it counts.

I try to stay away from talking about the Zebras, I know it’s a VERY hard job but they seem to miss even the easy calls way too often for my tastes.
