The Rangers and Islanders played a pretty competitive game last night, with the Isles coming out on top, 4-3 in regulation. This game started out heated, with emotions and almost fisticuffs galore. The teams exchanged quick goals, a fight broke out, the Isles added another, and that was before ten minutes had even passed.

Henrik Lundqvist faced just 20 shots, allowing four, two on the powerplay. Ice time was what was expected, I guess, with Pavel Buchnevich getting 10:03 of total ice time, third lowest on the team (Boo Nieves: 8:37, Cody McLeod: 7:40). For #TheVision, the Rangers lost in regulation, which is good. But losing to the Islanders is never fun. No one likes to lose to the Islanders. So that’s bad.

Rangers 1, Isles 0

This was pretty.

Isles 1, Rangers 1

Marc Staal and Neal Pionk went for a change as the Rangers turned the puck over. Matt Barzal had basically the entire offensive zone to come in. Brady Skjei and Adam McQuaid were on the ice, but this isn’t on them. Blame the bad change and the turnover.

Isles 2, Rangers 1

Cross ice pass, sure. But bad angle and Hank off his angle. He probably should have had this one.

Rangers 2, Isles 2

I couldn’t find a gif of this one, because apparently MSG Networks killed off NYR gif makers and then doesn’t pull their own weight in producing their own. But this was a great shot by Kevin Shattenkirk.

Isles 3, Rangers 2

You have to tap your stick to the Isles powerplay on this one, as they had the Rangers running around and got traffic in front. When there’s chaos, the puck goes in the net.

Rangers 3, Isles 3

This is a great play by Jesper Fast. He batted the puck out of the air, off the ice, and it bounced over Robin Lehner.

Isles 4, Rangers 3

Last minute goals are killer. Staal allows the cross ice pass, and I have no idea what Pionk was doing to defend Jordan Eberle. That was a weak stick check.

Shot Heatmap

As mentioned in the game thread, the Isles play low event hockey, and this was no different. The Rangers absolutely owned the last two periods, out shooting the Isles 34-14. Robin Lehner stood tall, though.

The Ranger and Isles tussle one more time on Saturday, and that concludes their matchup for the season. As much as #TheVision says lose in regulation, it’s the Islanders. Beat the Islanders, please.
