Game 40: The second western road trip begins

The Rangers begin their second trip out west tonight, taking on the very top heavy Colorado Avalanche. I say top heavy because outside of their top line and top pairing, this Avs team has no business being as good as they are. But that top line is one of the best in the league, and here we are, watching Colorado atop the standings (in a bad division).

As for the Blueshirts, they are going to try to play a little better. However it’s the same blue line dressing, despite the recent debacles, so who knows. It’s Alex Georgiev in net tonight, with Henrik Lundqvist getting a much needed day off. Jimmy Vesey is back in the lineup too.

Big audition night for Hayes, Zucc, and a bunch of others as we begin relentless pursuit of the Sens #1…??????

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 7:50 pm

Fearless prediction…a shutout for Georgie and a goal for Zuc.

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 9:49 pm

That was as undisciplined a period as I can ever recall seeing. Holy god. Georgi did very well to hold it to 2. Some big stops. Crap hit by McLeod – I don’t care what Joe says. Zucc???

Georgie may a few nice stops as the Rangers spent almost the entire 1st period shorthanded. Hopefully we will have a chance to watch the Blueshirts play even strength hockey during the rest of the game.

Staal pionk pairing have been brutal

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 10:44 pm

    Two crazy prediction nominations:

1- The Rangers go a game with 0 penalty minutes

2- The Rangers take more shots than a person had fingers and toes

    • Jan 4, 2019 at 10:56 pm

3 – Hayes is sitting out because he’s being traded

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 11:11 pm

Has to be really frustrating for Georg to give up 5 when he has actually been damn good. What a fiasco.

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 11:13 pm

It’s fitting Strome breaks the goose egg. He’s been the best Ranger on the ice tonight.

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 11:21 pm

Namestnikov and Strome clearly the best Rangers tonight. Zucc’s checked out.

    • Jan 5, 2019 at 12:33 am

Names continued to show heart but he sucked just like the rest of them. Strome was quietly the best forward tonight, any cycles that ended up on net or in the slot was due to him.

I don’t buy this talk of how Zucc checked out. Anyone that was familiar with his game knew he hasn’t been the same since 2015-16.

  • Jan 4, 2019 at 11:22 pm

Hah, Graves gets his first against the Rangers. Can’t blame Georgiev on 5 of the goals

    • Jan 4, 2019 at 11:24 pm

How ironic Ryan Graves the kid was never given a chance to show what he could do by the team that drafted him.

If you want ur first goal or ur struggling on a 150 game no goal streak, play the Rangers! It never fails. So let’s stay the course and rebuild instead of retool or what ever you wanna call what’s going down these 2-3 years.
PS – not so sure about Hughes yet!

So it was another bad one Leather … sitting here jacked up on some good MC meds and some new Cobalt Chromium bits dropped in. A total of 47 shots? We really can’t tell how good or bad Pionk is skating with Staal night in and night out as the top pairing. Is filling a big spot!

  • Jan 5, 2019 at 6:09 am

So, evidently, the Rangers didn’t have a snowball’s chance against the Avalanche.

    • Jan 5, 2019 at 6:27 am

I like what you did there?

Well done. As my bud Fotiu would say- stick tap to you Richter.

By the Fotiu – are you out there or have you gone undercover? Witness protection perhaps???

      • Jan 6, 2019 at 6:58 am

I assume that Fotiu is disgusted right now.
