Kevin Shattenkirk out 2-4 weeks with separated shoulder

The injury bug continues for the Rangers. Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who left Monday’s game against the Lightning early after a hit from JT Miller, has been diagnosed with a separated shoulder. He will be out 2-4 weeks.

This may be a blessing in disguise for Shatty, who has been inconsistent at best for the Rangers all year. Perhaps this gives his knee some extra time to heal.

It is expected that Brendan Smith will be back in the lineup on Friday.

The only negative I see here is it might hurt his trade value.

Shattenkirk is damaged goods and will never fully recover from his knee injury, which was more severely injured than reported. Feel bad for the guy …really nice guy

The second negative is that Smith is back in the line up. Play ADA, or bring up either Hajek, or Lindgren!!!!!

Nah, leave the kids down on the farm, don;t burn their ELC year by playing them 10 minutes here. Smitty can handle it (gulp)

I don’t know who it was, but someone tweeted that the Rangers should not sign any D man for more than $3M per because they’re not good at identifying better D men.

I’m starting to agree. Usually you build from the back end out, but it appears like the Rangers are incapable. I mean who would you keep in the current line up as opposed to bringing up Hajek and Lindgren? Or even Crawley? So if the Rangers had:

    Hajek-Claesson
    Lindgren-DeAngelo
    Crawley-Pionk

Would this really be that much worse than it is now? With K’Andre and Lindqvist coming soon? And if this were the case, then the cap space could be used for much better forwards who could possess the puck and take the pressure off the back end. Basically, if you could start all over, $63M towards forwards, $10M towards D men, and $10M towards the goalies, or something like that.

Right now we have about $25M tied up in D men that suck. You want to know why the team is bad? This is the reason.

K’Andre could be out Dustin B, but with quicker feet……..Good looking player and reports are that this kid is the real deal…..

The only thing I see is we may need a shootout goal in the next 3 weeks!

Fear not good people, for McQuaid is to begin practicing again.

I just read that McQuaid was practicing with Skjei and hoping to play Friday.

If this means DeAngelo is a scratch then I just have to shake my head and wonder what the plan is this season.

Agreed, when will it be Staal/Pionk’s turn to be scratched? It’s richly deserved at this point.
