Namestnikov, Zuccarello will not travel on road trip

Vlad Namestnikov (concussion protocol) and Mats Zuccarello (groin) will not travel with the team on their road trip through Ottawa and Montreal. With no call ups pending, it looks like the Rangers will go with 11F and 7D in those games.

Zuccarello’s groin issue has been bothering him for a few weeks now. Namestnikov took a hard bump in the win over Ottawa on Tuesday, and it isn’t surprising to see him in the protocol.

Unless there is a limit on call-ups, why wouldn’t you call back Lettieri? Probably makes Quinn’s life easier not sitting the D in another rotation.

I imagine the Rangers don’t want to lose Zuc or Namestnikov to IR for a week to call up a fw that will only play 5-7 minutes each game. The Rangers active roster is currently at the 23 man limit, they can’t call up a player without sending another down or putting someone on IR.

If that’s the Rangers thought process, they must feel both players should be ready by Sunday’s game and don’t want to risk losing them for a full week? Although, with the ridiculous ‘bye week’ starting after Sunday, it’s an overly cautious approach.

Personally, I think it would be fine to lose one of Zucc or Names until the Panthers game on the 8th and call up Lettierri than go with 11 and 7 for at least the next game and more likely the next 3 games.

It could also be the org sending a message to Lettieri.

Letteri has done nothing to merit being called up. He has been a negative.

Maybe ADA takes a spin up at forward? Kind of surprised they didn’t call up Nieves or Meskanen.

That is possible Tanto. I believe Quinn had him at forward one game earlier in the season.

He’s done it before. I seem to recall him playing a few games in AZ at forward — not sure here, but in a situation of having 7 d and 11 f it does no harm having him up for a few shifts on the 4th line, especially when that 4th line has a hard time getting more than 9-10 minutes a game.

Lettieri showed us nothing when he was up. Took bad penalties and was a liability. Give us a fresh face to evaluate.

I know Fogarty and Strome are there. Doesn’t change anything.

I thought defensively Lettieris’ play was sound. He just didn’t provide much offense. He has been lighting it up on the farm so why not bring him back up. Concussions are serious. Putting Names on IR and out of the lineup for a at least a week would be the wise thing to do.

Zuccarello not playing because they can’t deal him if the groin is flaring up.

There are a lot of little signs that Z will be traded, not sure if it makes sense though at this stage. Come February he will be in big-time demand.

If they dealt Zucc and one or 2 other painless moves they could offer sheet Nylander. Not gonna happen, but one can dream.

Even as a jab to set up the haymaker for Matthews/Marner over the summer.
