Rangers assign Boo Nieves to Hartford

The question, if there was one, about what would happen with Boo Nieves when he returned from his concussion has been answered. The center was returned to Hartford today, having seemingly recovered fully. He will rejoin the Pack, replacing Lias Andersson, who is now with the Rangers.

This also answers the question about what would happen with Andersson when the Rangers get some players back.

Nieves played 28 games with the Rangers last year, putting up a line of 1-8-9. He was slated to be the 4C this year, but the emergence of Brett Howden has slid Nieves down the depth chart.

  1. I don’t see how this “answers the question about what would happen with Andersson when the Rangers get some players back.” Boo is not one of the players that Lias is replacing on the roster. In fact it’s hard to see a role for Boo on the Rangers given the log jam already at center. It would be good if he could establish himself in Hartford and score down there to increase his trade value. Hard to see the Rangers getting much for him though.

  2. Seems like we go through this BS every year. We have Cody McLeod on the roster, Lettieri sits and Boo gets sent down. I feel sorry for Boo though, he doesn’t seem to catch any breaks.

His trade value is probably pretty much set and you won’t get what we spent on him (a 2nd rounder) — maybe we could get a 5th rounder for him — barring he goes down to Hartford and score at a PPG pace.

    1. In the past that might be upsetting, but now knowing it means more ice time for the young kids that’s actually kind of welcome news (as long as it’s a tweak and nothing serious).
