Game 75: The home stretch

The Rangers are in action tonight against one of the few teams that are worse than them: The Buffalo Sabres. I can’t imagine a scenario where the Rangers don’t come away with two points here, which is sure to anger a few people. But let’s take a lesson here in that the Sabres are a case in how not to rebuild. Elite talent in Jack Eichel, but not much else.

As for our Blueshirts, it is what it is at this point. We are going to face palm some lineup decisions and in-game adjustments. We are going to wonder how or if this team plays defense. They will score a bit, the Sabres will score a bit. Alex Georgiev will make 900 saves, give or take. You know, the usual.

Sabres Systems

Phil Housley is the new guy in Buffalo, and it’s not going that well. I don’t have any insight into his systems just yet.

  1. We almost lost to this team In the Winter Classic…

Losing to this team is not so hard to imagine.

  2. We need to lose in regulation….Chicago beats the Isles in OT….

    Let’s make it happen

  3. Geo making 900 saves? I bet it’s OVER 9000! LOL

Stress free hockey. I’ll watch it. Let’s Go Rangers!

  4. Congrats to Neil Boink scoring the first goal of his career off a nice feed by Vesey. 3-0 Rangers.

  5. Obviously the Sabres are far more practiced at the art of the tank than are the Rangers!

The Sabres who had the great French Connection line back when I went to the University of Buffalo have been bad it seems most of the time ever since. Take note Mr. Gorton, do not do as the Sabres have done!

    1. The Rangers can do very seldom right….it is not a coincidence we have only 1 cup in 78 years

We won …great….I would’ve been happy had it been a shut out….but couldn’t even do that right

so meaningless points jeopardizing draft position…and those dudes who say tanking is bad….do you really think Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Tavares, Price etc who are in full tank mode will let this tank year effect their play next year? Get outta here,,,lol

      1. Freaking sad …. All Pudding got from Sam was lots of shots were from the outside … Lol … Everyone that needed to tank , TANKED

      2. Players don’t tank. Especially good players like the ones you mentioned. They still have pride in there game even though there teams are bad. They aren’t just going to give up.

          1. Kane and Toews are leading their team in points with 71 and 52 respectively Tavares has 77 points this season. All of which would lead the Rangers whose top scorer has 49 points. Yea, those players you mentioned are clearly trying harder than any Ranger to lose games on purpose.

          2. Guess we can settle on 10th with a good chance if we keep winning to get up to 12th … Yay!

          3. Seive….some of these dudes are clueless to logic

Toews and Kane are on a team in full tank mode…they know what they are playing for and some of these posters just don’t get that….Tanking is a team thing….more so than an individual thing

    2. i remember watching the sabres in the ECF and SCF several times during the seemingly endless period when they were coached by lindy ruff during the dom hasek and ryan miller eras. those teams were no slouches. the 2006-2007 team was a juggernaut we played in the second round and won both games at MSG after dropping the first two in buffalo, and we almost had them in game 5 but for a last-seconds goal by Drury (who became a ranger that infamous summer) to tie it and the sabres won in OT, then closed out in another 1-goal game back at msg. that was such an exciting, hard played series.

nah, that club had a good run in the 90’s-00’s i don’t feel too bad for them but they should have won a Cup in there somewhere.

      1. Was gonna mention that series. That damned Max Afinagenov with the game 5 OT winner.

Sabres had some good teams in the Mogilny-Lafontaine years too, they put up some unbelievable numbers together. Always liked Michael Peca as a Sabre, hated him as an Islander.

      2. You are both correct. I totally forgot about some of the very good Sabres teams in that era. But, they now have been pretty lousy for a long time.
