The Rangers have provided an update on Chris Kreider, and it is not anything good at the moment. The forward will have rib resection surgery as part of his ongoing blood clot issues. He will continue to be out indefinitely. The surgery is basically the removal of a rib. Per Google, the recovery time is usually several weeks, which doesn’t include any blood clot treatment recovery.

Long story short, the Rangers are going to be without Kreider for an extended period of time. I shared this on Twitter, but the cap implications aren’t what you’d think, unless he’s out until the playoffs:

Kreider’s absence leaves a hole in the lineup that –while not as big as the one left by Mika Zibanejad– is very tough to fill.
