Rangers prospects Sean Day and Tim Gettinger have survived the first round of cuts for Team USA at the World Junior Summer Showcase. Along with Lias Andersson (Sweden), the Rangers have three prospects competing this summer.

Day has been a hot topic lately, as the club has a choice to send him to Hartford this year instead of spending one more year in the OHL. The 19-year-old lefty has exceptional talent, and the Rangers stole him in the third round.

While Day was expected to play for Team USA, it’s the inclusion of Gettinger in this conversation that has many people buzzing. The 5th round pick hasn’t even been spoken about, but now is beginning to make a name for himself.

Gettinger is a big kid at 6’5″, but fell in the draft because he had an off year. He did have a ton of hype, albeit a bit of unfair hype in his draft year. Josh loved the pick, and he’s slowly rising in the prospect rankings.

With three kids potentially playing in the WJC, that bodes well for a Rangers team that lacks elite talent. All good things.
