The 2017 NHL Entry Draft is upon us, and it’s been a wild ride already. The Rangers have made a blockbuster deal, sending Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta to Arizona for the #7 pick and top defense prospect Anthony DeAngelo. Jeff Gorton doesn’t appear to be finished yet, as there are rumblings that he is looking to move up from the 7th pick. Clearly he has someone in mind.

The rest of the league didn’t sit idly by either. Chicago made a pair of moves. They first sent Nicklas Hjalmarsson to Arizona for Connor Murphy and Laurent Dauphin. Then they re-acquired Brandon Saad (with Anton Forsberg and a 5th rounder) from Columbus for Artemi Panarin, Tyler Motte, and a 6th round pick. The other blockbuster was Jordan Eberle heading to the Isles for Ryan Strome. We will be live blogging all night, so follow with us.

  • TJ Oshie re-upped with Washington for 8 (!!) years and a $5.75 million cap hit.
  • The Rangers are willing to move the 7 and 21 picks for the #3.
  • No trade of the first overall pick. The Devils take Nico Hischier. Between him, Eberle, and Panarin added to the Metro, it’s going to be another bloodbath.
  • No trade of the second overall pick either. The Flyers take Nolan Patrick. Nothing surprising yet. But we will see what happens with the #3 and Dallas.
  • So much for trading up. The Rangers and Dallas can’t cut a deal, and the Stars take Miro Heiskanen third overall.
  • Colorado takes Cale Makar fourth overall.
  • Vancouver takes Elias Pettersson. I was hoping he’d fall to #7. Oh well.
  • Cody Glass becomes the first every draft pick for Vegas.
  • The Rangers take Lias Andersson 7th overall.
  • Casey Mittelstadt goes to Buffalo 8th overall.
  • The Wings take Michael Rasmussen 9th overall. Josh wasn’t a big fan of his. Gabe Vilardi seems to be slipping.
  • Florida (after a shot at analytics by Pierre) takes Owen Tippett. The gingerest of the gingers.
  • Gabe Vilardi slips to 11 to the Kings.
  • Canes take Martin Necas at 12. They have built a solid team.
  • Vegas takes Nick Suzuki at 13 overall.
  • Cal Foote, son of Adam, goes to Tampa at 14.
  • EriK Brannstrom, whom I wanted at 21, goes to Vegas at 15. McPhee is having a helluva first round.
  • Calgary takes Juuso Valimaki at 16.
  • Toronto takes Timothy Liljegren at 17, another pick I would’ve liked to have on the Rangers.
  • Bruins take Urho Vaakanainen at 18. Would’ve been fun to listen to Sam try to pronounce that. But glad I don’t have to write it more than once.
  • San Jose takes Josh Norris at 19.
  • Robert Thomas goes to St. Louis at 20. He was Smooth with Santana way back when.
  • The Rangers take Filip Chytil at 21 overall.
  • Kailer Yamamoto goes to the Oilers at 22.
  • Pierre-Olivier Joseph goes to Arizona at 23 overall.
  • Winnipeg takes Kristian Vesalainen at 24 overall.
  • Montreal takes Ryan Poehling at 25 overall. He slipped a lot.
  • Chicago trades pick 26 to Dallas for picks 29 and pick 70. Dallas takes the first goalie of the draft: Jake Oettinger.
  • St. Louis trades the 27 pick, Jori Lehtera, and a conditional 2018 1st to Philadelphia for Brayden Schenn. Philly takes Morgan Frost with the pick.
  • At 28, Ottawa picks Shane Bowers.
  • Chicago grabs Henri Jokiharju at 29 overall. Another name I’m glad I don’t have to type more than once.
  • Nashville takes Eeli Tolvanen at 30 overall.
  • The Penguins acquire Ryan Reaves and pick 51 from St. Louis for Oskar Sundqvist and pick 31. St. Louis takes Klim Kostin.
