Rangers sign Boo Nieves to two year entry level deal

As expected the Rangers have signed 2012 second round pick Cristoval “Boo” Nieves to a two year entry level deal. Nieves just finished his senior season at Michigan, the best of his four year career. He put up 10-21-31 in his final season, setting a career high in goals, points, and tying his career high in assists. Nieves is one of two drafted college seniors that the Rangers will likely be signing, as Steven Fogarty (2011-third round) should also be signing shortly.

  1. As both Nieves and Fogarty are centers, I suspect they will play in Hartford for a while to get up to speed. In the likely situation that Dom Moore will not be with the club next year, either may try for that spot, but Fogarty may be a bit better defensively.

The Hartford club should have a bit of turnover next year anyway.

    1. Exactly, just more depth. I doubt Boo or Fogarty ever become regular NHLers but you never know. They are certainly going to get a shot at some point with the Rangers.

It’s nice to know that Lindberg, at the very minimum, can be a regular 4th line C in the NHL.

  2. Boo has tons of potential & it remains to be seen whether pro coaching from Gernander et al can bring that out. I like to see our prospects spend at least two years in the AHL because most of them are not ready for pro.

    1. Agree, but sometimes men who spend 4 years playing college hockey can step in and provide value quicker.

  3. Sounds like he was either a product of his linemates, or he’s a great distributor of the puck and a valuable asset. We’ll see. Good luck to him, though.

  4. Nieves could be either a natural center, or a possible wing, with lots of speed. Fogarty is a center, better suited for the position, and with his size, 6’3″, 212 lbs, much more sound defensively, This will give us choices between him, and Lindberg at that position, or Oskar on the wing……………
