Stepan and Klein on the road trip

Derek Stepan (ribs) and Kevin Klein (abdominal) are both traveling with the Rangers on this road trip, beginning in Minnesota tonight. Alain Vigneault stated that Stepan and Klein likely won’t play tonight, but there’s a chance both will play tomorrow.

The lineup for tonight’s game will likely remain the same, but there will need to be some roster decisions made when they both return.

  • Well we can probably assume Skjei is going back to the AHL when Klein returns, but I dread the decision that will be made when Girardi is “healthy”.

It’s Etem vs. Glass when Stepan is back.

  • Skjei is a no brain er . TG still has pics of AV so he stays in the line up.In my perfect world i would like to see
    Zucc Brass Nash
    Kreider Stepan Miller
    Lindberg Hayes Etem/Stalberg
    Fast Moore TG/Stalberg
If you will not give Etem a shot on the third line bite the bullet and let him go , you know TG is here to stay AV see’s something we are all missing .I am not a big fan of Etem but i do think he can play and contribute with more quality minutes LGR

    • Etem may need to play a few weeks in Hartford on their top line to see if he actually has the potential some see.

Could be quite interesting when Klein returns. Should not bench McIlrath.

      • The problem with that is Hartford is garbage. I’ve seen a few of their games this season and it’s really hard to judge any individual player because their game as a whole is just not good.

I figured it would be a breath of fresh air for Skjei when he was called up because he would actually have a chance to show something with players that can complement him and vice versa.

  • What are anyone’s thoughts on a trade for Ryan Johansen involving Stepan? If/how it could be possible?

    • In a heartbeat, but would never happen, particularly within division.
Step is a very solid 2C but is he starting to be ‘injury’ prone due to lack of anticipating big hits and/or slow skating allowing checkers to line him up.
      .
Bigger question, is can you win a cup without a #1Center? Is that Johansen?

      • Yeah I was thinking some kind of package deal. I’d think Tortorella would like having Stepan back but at the same time it would be difficult for the Blue Jackets to trade Johansen within the division

        • To somewhat answer your question, Johansen is still only 23 and could develop into that #1 center but is having issues in Columbus where they don’t like his effort so that could hinder him developing that way. It would be nice for them to have a center who shoots a bit more.

  • During last weeks Satherpalooza, did anyone else notice that Sathers’s grandson is named Tanner? That’s right, Tanner Sather. If anyone needed an answer to why he’s so attached to Glass, I propose that we now have the answer.

  • Neither will play tonight. Klein definitely won’t play tomorrow, and Stepan is only a slight chance to play tomorrow.

Both expect to play vs the Caps Sunday if they keep progressing.
