Megna/Diaz clear waivers

Both Raphael Diaz and Jayson Megna cleared waivers this afternoon, and will report to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Megna clearing was no surprise, but it is relatively surprising that Diaz cleared. There are a few teams that could use a cheap, capable defenseman –specifically Boston, who is without Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg– but I guess teams want to see what they have internally first.

  • That’s is great news for the Rangers, assuming Diaz agrees to report and not go back to Europe. Gives them depth and options if they choose to trade Klein at a later date.

  • Nice to be able to retain both in the organization. If either is brought up for any reason, would they have to clear waivers again to be sent back down?

    • Not absolutely certain, but I believe there is a time period attached _I think a month. The Rangers can call one of those who cleared waivers up and send him down again on the same waivers multiple times as long as they send him down before say October 31. They can’t send them down again in November without another exposure to waivers.

      • yes he’s saying if not called up in a month he wants his release so the rangers would have to put Glass on waivers for that to happen.

  • I guess Boston figured if he wasn’t as good as Klein that they’d take a pass and give the Rangers a 6th rounder for the better player. LOL

  • I’m not really surprised Diaz was not claimed. I suspect many teams consider him a marginal NHLer.

    • LOL…ya think? And once again, this where I get really confused about the thoughts some people have regarding the Rangers’ D. At first I wasn’t sure if I was ignorant or just stupid because I hold the opinion of the people that post here in the highest regard. I’ve read the opinions and seen the players. I can’t be ignorant anymore. I guess I’m just stupid.

  • Options, options, options!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is what we have with these guys passing waivers. The team has additional depth, skill, and assets that could come into play later on in the season !!!!!!!!!

    • I agree Walt. I know some people think Diaz is a borderline NHL defenseman, and there may be some truth to that. However, a team looking for help on their power play from the back end could do a lot worse than Diaz.
