Happy Friday, BSB’ers!  Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for…the unveiling of the Off-Season Plan Contest Finalists.  I am going to run all three final submissions throughout the day, today.  Once they have had a chance to be read, dissected and discussed, our tech-savvy, fearless leader will place a poll on the sidebar for you to vote for your favorite plan.  I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who submitted a proposal.  Some very good ones were left on the cutting room floor.  Here is our second submission of the day, if you missed number one, I can be found right here

Good Afternoon,

My Name is [redacted] and I am the interim GM for the New York Rangers, this season has been a roller coaster of emotions. We have fallen short of the goals this season, are looking to capitalize on any and all opportunities to make this team better this coming season. Enclosed is my plan to help find and fill the missing pieces of the puzzle to help bring Lord Stanley’s Cup back to NYC.

Pre-Draft Moves:

  • New York Rangers trade (G) Cam Talbot and (D) Kevin Klein to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Nail Yakupov and the 33rd overall pick in this year’s draft.

This move made the most sense from an organizational standpoint; it has given us a solid young player and another 2nd round draft pick this year. Moving these two players has given us much needed salary cap relief and depth up front as well as the chance to pick early in the 2nd round of this years exceptionally deep draft pool. We felt as an organization it made sense to acquire Nail as he would bolster our top six forwards and give him playing time that he may not be allotted this year in Edmonton as they are drafting #1 and #16 overall. As we are all aware the Oilers are flushed with an abundant of top tier talent, and high draft picks. We chose to take Nail instead of the offered 16th overall pick as he will help fill the void left by Martin St. Louis. Nail brings youthful exuberance and a nose for the net, he is a trigger man that paired with the right players can blossom into a very elite player in this league. The addition of Klein in this trade was to solidify the 2nd round pick. Klein is a hardnosed player who will bring much stability to the young Edmonton backend, something they have sorely missed.

  • New York Rangers trade (F) Tanner Glass to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2016 7th round pick. As an organization we felt that this player was no longer going to fit into our plan and decided to part ways with him.

Draft Day: (All picks taken with help of our scouting department lead by Josh Khalfin)

NYR hold the 33rd, 59th, 89th, 119th, & 209th picks in this years draft.

Pick #33 NYR (from EDM) – Jack Roslovic – This young man fits the needs of the organization, he has good size and skill that will continue to develop in the NCAA with Miami University. Right handed shooting potential top 6 forward with the want to shoot the puck.

Pick #59 NYR – Alexander Dergachyov – Big bodied Russian who loves to crash the net hard and distribute the puck. With his size and ability to drive possession he draws attention away from his teammates, he can become a deadly weapon for this organization.

Pick #89 NYR –Jesper Lindgren – Offensive minded right hand defenseman with relatively good size and ability. At only 18 he is a mature heady player who can skate well and distribute the puck, would bring a nice well rounded addition to our deep defensive depth chart.

Pick #119 NYR – TBD

Pick #179 NYR – TBD

Pick #209 NYR – TBD

Post Draft:

Resigning of RFA and UFA Players:

RFA

  • Jesper Fast – Re-Signed for 2yrs at 1.0 per (Bridge Deal)
  • JT Miller – Re-Signed for 2yrs at 1.25 per (Bridge Deal)
  • Oscar Lindberg – Re-Signed for 2yrs at 795k (Bridge Deal)
  • Derek Stepan – Re-Signed for 7yrs at 5.75per
  • Carl Hagelin – Re-Signed for 4yrs at 3.25per

UFA

  • Jonas Gustavsson – Signed 2yrs at 1.0per

The team lays out something like this:

Skjei and McIllrath with battle out for the 6th/7th Defenseman spot. Reports that McIllrath could make the jump to the pros would help counter act the loss of Klein.

With the remaining 1.23 in cap space that will allow us flexibility to keep a 13th forward or 7th D on the rosters at all times. That remaining cap space can come in handy as we get closer to the deadline and maybe look to add a veteran leader.

This is one of the deepest rosters we have seen in years, filled with youth, speed and smarts. Deployment of our 3rd and 4th lines are almost interchangeable, those guys with the exception of Hayes can be juggled around to make multiple different line combos. This roster can generate scoring chances as well as drive possession no matter what line is on the ice. I have no intentions to change Coach Vigneault philosophy or style of play, I want to give him the best chance to bring the Cup home to New York.
