2015 nhl draft

Tonight is Day One of the 2015 NHL Draft, with the first round taking place over the span of three hours. The New York Rangers do not have a pick in this round, yet. There are wild rumors about what will happen with Cam Talbot, and it is expected that the Rangers will make a trade tonight to slide into the first round.

Before the draft, you should read Josh’s draft road map, which outlines who the Rangers might have available to them at any given point in the draft. All of his draft profiles can be viewed here.

This afternoon, there were three major trades, two involving the Bruins:

  • Buffalo acquired Robin Lehner and David Legwand for the 21st overall pick.
  • Bruins sent Dougie Hamilton to Calgary for the 15th, 45h, and 52nd picks in this year’s draft
  • Bruins sent Milan Lucic to Los Angeles for the 13th pick, goalie Martin Jones, and prospect Colin Miller. The Bruins retained $2.75m of Lucic’s salary.

We are live blogging the draft tonight and all day tomorrow. Be sure to join us.

6:35pm: The Bruins are rumored to be talking to Arizona for the #3 pick.

6:50pm: Apparently Ryan O’Reilly is headed to the Sabres. Not confirmed yet.

7:10pm: Trade is confirmed. ROR and Jamie McGinn to Buffalo for Nikita Zadarov, Mikhail Grigorenko, J.T. Compher and the 31st pick.

7:11pm: The Rangers and Oilers are working on the Cam Talbot trade. Should be done soon.

7:30pm: McJesus and Eichel went 1/2, as expected. Dylan Strome is going to Arizona at #3. Lots of folks thought Noah Hanifin would go here.

7:45: Mitch Marner to Toronto at #4, Hanifin to Carolina at #5.

8:05: The Rangers are not trading Talbot to San Jose, who picked Timo Meier.

8:20: Pretty uneventful right now. No real sleepers or surprises yet in the draft.

8:25: Dallas makes their pick (Denis Gurianov). So the Rangers aren’t getting the #12 either. Some folks were hoping he could slide to 16 if the Rangers get that pick. A few thought he would be a second round pick.

8:40: Boston appears to be making all three of their picks at 13, 14, and 15. This is why you don’t bank on trading for the #3. And all three picks were off the board. What the.

8:50: The Islanders, of all teams, have moved up in the draft, trading with the Oilers for the #16 pick. They also get the #33 pick. Griffin Reinhart goes to Edmonton.

9:10: Thomas Chabot is the first “sleeper” off the table. The Bs went off the board, but Chabot is supposed to be a real steal.

9:45: The Flyers and Leafs have made a trade. Flyers get the 24th pick. Leafs get 29th and 61st picks.

10:05: Tampa Bay trades down from 28 (originally NYR’s pick) to the Islanders for picks 33 and 72. This is the second year in a row the Isles will draft in the Rangers’s slot. Last year they took Josh Ho-Sang. This time, they took Anthony Beauvillier.

10:15: Toronto traded #29 pick to Columbus for picks 34 and 68.

10:20: NBCSN cuts away from draft coverage before it’s over for Track and Field. What?

10:22: New Jersey acquires Kyle Palmieri from Anaheim for the 41st pick and a 2016 3rd round pick.
