SCF Game 4: Please don’t get swept

I find it rather humorous that we are in this situation, talking about a possible sweep. The Rangers blew a bunch of two-goal leads in the first two games, but both games went to overtime. They lost both, but a bounce here or there, and we are having a different conversation. That’s the way the puck bounces sometimes. But getting swept would end such a great run on a sour note. Please win tonight.

Daryl Sutter has the Kings playing a system similar to that of John Tortorella’s Rangers. They generally run an aggressive overload 2-1-2 forecheck (forecheckers attack the same side of the ice) and they play a 2-1-2 zone defense off the wall (two guys take the hit zone, one takes the support zone, two have the slot). Once the puck moves up high, depending on the matchup, they’ll attack the blue line or collapse their forwards.  They play a hybrid penalty kill, and a 1-3-1/modified umbrella on the powerplay.

  • Glenn Healy said that he would award the Conn Smythe trophy to Brad Richards because he more than any other player has single-handedly shut down the Rangers power play and no other player could have done that.

  • Get dirty, get into the paint….screen, deflect…garbage goal…that could be the results…bottom line…that means you, Nash and Hagelin…I am not worried about the 3rd and 4th lines…they ave played their hearts out.

  • NHL Network and NBCSN both anointing the Kings. The whole thing has the feel of a formality. I know we are probably going down in the next 2-3 games, but I have a feel ins me bones that this is going to get interesting.

The Rangers have been a cut above this year. We win tonight then take it to LA, where we win again. If that happens, anything can happen. I know these fairy tales usually don’t work out. But the good thing is that there has not been much ‘usually’ about his season.

    Let go boyz!!!

  • Coming back down 3 games is a longshot but I think at the very least the Rangers could make it interest by bringing the series back to L.A

  • Girardi has been brutal…Kings are willing their way…winning almost every battle…Rangers look scared

  • Ugliest win I have ever seen…but better ugly than not winning. We need to be way better than this to win it in LA

    • My thoughts exactly. I’ll take it, but they didn’t show me they could win on the road in LA on Friday. They need to be much much better.

Lundqvist on the other hand, was his usual self.

      • Rangers absolutely were outplayed and get some fortunate puck luck on the goal line. Yet they win.

Strikingly similar to game 3, which obviously had the roles reversed. It was about time things went our way.

  • They need to payback Hank with a solid victory in game 5. They can’t ask him to do a repeat performance on Friday. They have to be more assertive and stop panicking with the puck. Some of their passes while under pressure were just brutal. I’ve been on Girardi for a while now, and at times I feel like I’m using him as a scapegoat for every goal that they give up. But not tonight. Tonight had to be one of the most brutal performances I have ever seen him have as a Ranger. And I’m not talking about he broken stick. Constantly coughing up the puck, losing his man, falling down and imitating the Sta-Puft marshmallow man in front of his own net. In the 3rd, after another bad giveaway, and an almost goal, you could see Hank turn his head away and scream his head off. I don’t know how his game has deteriorated to this point, but he needs to get it back. Stop pinching, stop taking weak shots from the point, and more importantly, defend the crease. Don’t just lean on your man; plant him into the ice!!! Clear the zone, give it to McD, and get the hell out of the way. Do that and we might see a game 6.
