The Minnesota Wild have placed forward Petr Sykora and his $1.6 million full season cap hit (roughly $800,000 pro-rated) on waivers. Sykora, 33, has been a very big disappointment in Minnesota, playing in just 14 games, and contributing just 3 points (2G, 1A). The former Ranger (acquired in 2006 for Maxim Kondratiev) had been a healthy scratch for Minnesota for the past six games, which kind of reminds me of Ales Kotalik.

I don’t think anyone puts in a waiver claim, but I would be very surprised if he passes through re-entry waivers. Don’t expect the Rangers to bite though.

In other news, Michael Peca announced his retirement. Peca was almost a Ranger prior to the 2007-2008 season.
