The Rangers have re-signed defenseman Chris Summers to a one-year, two-way contract. Summers has been a depth defensemen for the Rangers since being acquired from Arizona in the Keith Yandle deal, playing a total of six games for the Rangers in that season and a half.
Summers carries a cap hit of $600,000 at the NHL level. His salary will be $300,000 at the AHL level.
Magnus Hellberg and Chris Summers have been returned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. Hellberg served as the backup for Antti Raanta while he was out, and Summers played a few games while Kevin Klein and Dan Girardi were out. It appears the Rangers expect to be fully healthy when the Christmas break ends on Monday.
The Rangers have made a trio of roster moves in preparation for tonight’s game in Winnipeg. Brady Skjei was returned to Hartford and Chris Summers was called up. My guess here is that the Rangers want a steadier presence in the lineup until Kevin Klein returns, as Skjei was prone to a few mistakes in his first call up. Could have just been jitters.
The Rangers will be without Dan Girardi for tonight’s game against Edmonton, which means the Rangers will need to call up a defenseman to fill out the roster. With Jarret Stoll on the waiver wire (update on that at noon), the Rangers have enough cap space to call up any defenseman for the short and long term. Considering it’s Girardi, and he’s a bit of an iron man made from robot parts, he likely will just miss this game. But there are a few options in Hartford that make sense.
He’s hurt. He’s not the call up. But Alain Vigneault hinted he would be had he been healthy.
With a need to rest some guys on the NHL roster, the New York Rangers have recalled forward Ryan Bourque and defenseman Chris Summers for tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators. Summers was recalled once by the Rangers last month when Matt Hunwick was a last minute scratch against the Washington Capitals on March 29.
Bourque, who will likely play in the bottom six, was seen as someone who could have potentially cracked the roster in camp, but was beaten out by Anthony Duclair and Kevin Hayes (and then eventually J.T. Miller). Bourque has a line of 12-18-30 this year in Hartford. I expect that this is also an audition for Bourque to see where he stands with the organization.
Both guys will play tonight and possibly this weekend.
The New York Rangers have returned defenseman Chris Summers to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. Summers was an emergency fill-in for Matt Hunwick, who missed the game yesterday against Washington with an undisclosed injury. Returning Summers to the AHL means that Hunwick is ready to go for the game tomorrow in Winnipeg.
The Rangers have recalled defenseman Chris Summers from the AHL to fill in for the injured Matt Hunwick this afternoon. Summers was an extra body acquired in the Keith Yandle deal. He has an assist in ten games with the Hartford Wolf Pack. He will likely be a temporary fill in until Hunwick returns.
