Rangers trade Cody McLeod to Nashville

The Rangers have made their first move of the trade deadline season, sending Cody McLeod back to Nashville for a 2020 7th round pick. The Rangers claimed McLeod off waivers from Nashville last season, and McLeod re-signed in New York this year. For his Rangers career, McLeod put up a line of 1-2-3 in 56 games.

The fact that the Rangers got something for McLeod is surprising, since he’s been a non-factor and downright bad all year. But hey, they got an extra dart to throw at the board in 2020. That’s a win.

"Rangers trade Cody McLeod to Nashville", 4 out of 5 based on 15 ratings.

Opens up a winger spot. Look for Meskanen to be dressing soon.

I hope this means they will keep McQuaid?, otherwise we are destined to be ABUSED!

Or – here’s an idea – ditch McQuaid as well for any pick that can be received in return, and watch absolutely nothing change! He deters nothing, same as any other enforcer. Dirty players aren’t afraid of getting punched in the face for 13 seconds. If they were, they wouldn’t be dirty players! 😉

One by one Gorton is cleaning up the mess he created. Spooner contract, McLeod signing. Now we need to move Smith and Skjei so we can get some real return. Zucc being heavily sought after.

Eh, he didn’t really clean up Spooner yet. He just got another lackluster player in his stead. If he can now flip Strome for picks, that would be truly cleaning it up.

Well since the Rangers are the best 7th Round pickers ever I’m sure this turns into a Hall of Famer…

      They sure did Andy.

The thumbs down on the story was mine in error Dave – How can anyone not give this news a thumbs up!!!

Before I even read this I was thinking that the Bruins game tonight could me a nice audition for McQuaid since there was some teammate grumbling when he left Boston.

Maybe Gorts can pull of another reunion trade – this time with McQuaid.

Preds also picked up Brian Boyle for a 2nd. That would seem to bode well as a market develops for our trade bait.

True, a 2nd seems a high price to pay for Boyler … a 3rd would have sounded more appropriate at this stage of his career.

Now maybe we can have a 4th line that actually produces some points every now and then.

This trade also shows that Gorton is making moves independent of Quinn’s player usage. Maybe JG is really in total control.

While McLeod was notably favored over others at points in terms of sitting in the press box or not, he did still have the lowest TOI of the forward regulars by far, to note. I’m not sure this trade really means much, frankly, other than Gorton was positive he would not want McLeod back next season, so took the first offer he got for a pick now. Now, if McQuaid is also moved, then maybe that will indicate a philosophy change somewhere in the front office. So long as McQuaid is still around however, I’ll take it to mean that they still are evaluating talent poorly when it comes to “tough guy” vs. “tough to play against”.

There was a time where Cody played his role very well. He provided energy, physically and didn’t hurt his club defensively. But in my humble view, he is a old warrior whose time has come. I wish him well in his new home in Nashville

I must say Cody played harder than Fast. He played the roll he was given. Now trade Fast for a 6th round pick.

Did Fast steal your high school crush or something?

I don’t know whose more obsessed:
      You with Jesper Fast
      Or
      Mint with Kevin Hayes

As I said to someone else on the other BSB about another player; I wish both you and Fast a long healthy life. But I also hope that yours is even a mere minute longer, so you can at least take one breath in life free of this obsession.

You know what John, I found your analogy to be very interesting and curious.
