Game 6: An Avalanche of losses

The Rangers are just 1-4 to start the season, and haven’t looked very good. This was relatively expected, at least in the early going, as there is a new coach, new system, decent turnover, poor finishing luck to start the season, and a pretty poor blue line. It’s going to be a lot of pain for this season, and tonight may be another one of those painful games.

Colorado can seemingly score at will this season, with 19 goals in just five games. Combine that with a porous Rangers blue line still learning the system, and it could be a recipe for disaster. Of course that’s why they play the game though, as we thought that about Nashville, and that’s the game the Rangers won.

Rangers lineup:

Filip Chytil-Kevin Hayes-Mats Zuccarello
Chris Kreider-Mika Zibanejad-Jesper Fast
Jimmy Vesey-Brett Howden-Vlad Namestnikov
Cody McLeod-Ryan Spooner-Vinni Lettieri

Defense pairs TBD

PP1: Zibanejad-Zuccarello-Kreider-Spooner-Shattenkirk
PP2: Hayes-Chytil-Vesey-Howden-Skjei/Pionk

Henrik Lundqvist gets the start.

Avs lineup:

Gabriel Landeskog-Nathan MacKinnon-Mikko Rantanen
Alex Kerfoot-Tyson Jost-Colin Wilson
Matt Nieto-Carl Soderberg-Gabriel Bourque
Vladislav Kamenev-Marko Dano-Matt Calvert

Samuel Girard-Erik Johnson
Ian Cole-Tyson Barrie
Nikita Zadarov-Patrik Nemeth

PP1: Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen-Jost-Barrie
PP2: Soderberg-Nieto-Kerfoot-Wilson-Girardi

Semyon Varlamov gets the start.

Scratches: Pavel Buchnevich (healthy), Tony DeAngelo (healthy), Adam McQuaid (healthy)

Crazy Prediction: 11 combined goals between the teams.

Game time is 7pm.

Disappointed not to see ADA in the lineup. Hopefully the coach is working him in practice on a few things that he feels need improvement. The kid has the spark on offense, I believe defensive zone coverages can be taught. He’s got the legs, so it shouldn’t be a problem. That is my armchair quarterbacking for this evening!

That was a good/fun game. Really think this is going to propel Shatty to some great games. Buch needs to be back in because they need to score more goals. Vesey still missing chip shots and breakaways (although Varlamov was terrific). Hank = consistency and that’s a good thing.
