The first day of free agency is upon us. The Rangers are expected to be watchers this year with big names, as only Leo Komarov, and potentially Tobias Rieder, have been mentioned as connected to the Rangers. That may be a good thing, as this is the day when 30 year olds get multi year contracts for absurd money.

Use this as your open thread for the day. You all know the rules, keep it civil. This will be updated with the big deals throughout the day.

Enjoy the madness.

  • From before today:
    • Logan Couture remains in SJ on an 8 year, $64 million deal.
    • Ryan Reaves is staying in Vegas for two years, $5.55 million ($2.75ish million a year).
    • Niklas Hjarmalsson is staying in Arizona, two years at $5 million a year.
    • Montreal acquired Steve Mason, Joel Armia, a 7th rounder, and a 4th rounder for prospect Simon Bourque in a clear salary dump. Montreal then bought out Mason.
    • Eddie Lack to NJ for one year, $650k.
  • David Perron is headed back to STL. Four years, $4m a year.
  • Eric Gryba is going to NJ.
  • Eric Fehr to MIN.
  • Apparently Vegas is going to land Stastny. That may open a potential NYR RFA trade with Winnipeg.
  • Detroit gets Thomas Vanek, one year, $3 million.
  • Carter Hutton gets three years at $2.75m from Buffalo.
  • Larry Brooks is noting that the Rangers have no clear commitments at this point.
  • Jaro Halak goes to Boston for two years.
  • Austin Czarnik goes to Calgary for two years, $1.25 million per and Derek Ryan for three years, $3.125 million per.
  • Vancouver gets Jay Beagle at four years, $3 million per and Antoine Roussell for four years, $3.25 million per. Lol Canucks.
  • Apparently, per David Pagnotta (The Fourth Period – grain of salt required), the Rangers are one of the teams kicking the tires on an Erik Karlsson/Bobby Ryan package deal with Ottawa. That could be huge.
  • Jack Johnson is Pittsburgh bound, five years, $16.25 million total. That’s a deal they will regret.
  • Bad news for the Rangers, as Vlad Namestnikov might want to go to the KHL.
  • Anton Khudobin is going to Dallas.
  • The Tavares sweepstakes are between San Jose and Toronto. Isles officially out.
  • Matt Hendricks and Greg Pateryn are headed to Minnesota.
  • Thomas Hickey stays with the Isles, four years and $2.5m a year.
  • Kyle Brodziak is going to Edmonton, one year and $1 million.
  • Stastny is going to Vegas, seven years and $47.5 million. Wow.
  • Tyler Bozak is headed to STL.
  • Ryan McDonagh is staying on TB. Seven years at $6.75m a year. Yikes.
  • Michael Grabner follows Derek Stepan to Arizona, three years and $3.35m.
  • Nick Holden to Vegas for two years.
  • And Tavares goes to Toronto. 7 years.
