Per Larry Brooks, the Rangers are going to target free agent winger Ryan Reaves when free agency opens on Sunday. Reaves is a 31 year old winger and your prototypical “tough guy.” Reaves doesn’t do much on the ice except for punching, but per Brooks, Reaves is an extremely likable guy in the locker room.
My guess is that Reaves is one of those guys the Rangers will target, like Leo Komarov, that may not have an impact on the ice, but will create a culture of learning and comfort in the locker room for the rookies. Komarov speaks multiple languages, which should help kids adapt. Reaves, as a likable guy, should be able to help as well.
But again, on the ice, Reaves doesn’t move the needle much.
