We’ve made it to the conference finals and, as it turns out, only one team has even made it here. How fun! We’ve already been treated to Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals, a 4-2 victory by the Caps over the Bolts, and anxiously await the West to start tonight at 7pm Eastern.

While we may all be awkwardly cheering for different teams, or uninterested altogether, it’s our duty at BSB to provide you with our completely unbiased opinions on who will take each series. Be sure to share your picks in the comments!

Washington Capitals vs Tampa Bay Lightning (currently, 1-0 Caps lead)

Dave: TBL in 7. Tampa is the better and deeper team. Washington is good but without proper depth doesn’t stand a chance.

Pat: TBL in 7. Exactly what Dave said – the difference in depth is simply too much (Ovi is a god tho, so seven games for sure)

Rob: Caps in 6. Tampa is deep and talented across four lines, three defense pairs and in goal. Their regular season metrics put Washington’s to shame. They absolutely suffocated and soundly beat a solid Bruins team in the last round. So, they should win this series, right? Well, playoff hockey is a weird thing. The Caps may just have luck on their side this time, after literal decades of the opposite being true. I also just cancnot root for Tampa and specifically Jon Cooper. The Caps clinch the Eastern Conference at home.

Becky: Caps in 6. The Lightning are facing the first good goalie they’ve seen this playoffs. Everyone is focused on 1- the Caps’ depth and 2- the Caps’ history of choking up until the ECF, but now, we’re here. The game will be entertaining for Rangers fans who still see this as Girardi-McDonagh vs. Ovechkin, but Jon Cooper is not John Tortorella or Alain Vigneault, and the team surrounding them are no longer wearing Ranger blue. Time to look at this through a new lens.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Winnipeg Jets

Dave: Jets in 6. The Jets are so good and are clicking on all cylinders. They beat the best in the west already.

Pat: Jets in 7. The Jets’ forward depth is nuts and Big Buff (cant spell his last name IRL) and Trouba are truly poppin it’s also a plain fact that no team has quite been able to crack VGK all year, so even in doing so it’ll be a strain

Rob: Jets in 5. This isn’t an indictment of Vegas; they’re certainly “for real” and everyone who thought they’d be bad should just take the L and go home. But for some reason, I feel like the Jets are going to solve Marc-Andre Fleury in this round. The games will all be tight, with at least a couple going to OT, but I think Winnipeg’s talent and depth will win out.

Becky: VGK in 6. I straight up fear what I don’t understand (see: fax machines, tofu, the Pythagorean Theorem). I think the Jets are so good and I want them to win, but the Knights have some weird ‘it’ factor this year. Hopefully I’m wrong!
