Game 53: All in for Dahlin

The tank and sell machine is in full effect for the Rangers. Rick Nash has been asked for his no-trade list. Tampa Bay is interested in Ryan McDonagh. The Rangers are in the news, and this time for the right reasons. Selling, and recognizing a retool is needed, is the right move. Injuries may have forced their hand, but this was always the right move.

There is a game tonight, though, as the Rangers are in Dallas to take on a Stars team that could probably use some defensive depth. That said, this is a solid Stars team that can tear a defense apart. Plus Ken Hitchcock is a good coach. Good thing the Rangers have Steven Kampfer in the lineup.

Stars Systems

Ken Hitchcock is the new man in Dallas. He is notorious for running an aggressive 2-1-2 overload forecheck, switching to a 1-2-2 with a lead late in the period. Expect the Stars to be fairly aggressive when it comes to defensive zone schemes, playing an overload style and collapsing down when the puck is down low. Their power play strategy is a 1-3-1, and their penalty kill formation is a hybrid.

Its amazing…with all of the juggling AV does, when was the last time McD had a different partner? Would like to see Tony D with him, at least for a period.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 6:38 pm

While they’re already in Dallas, why not trade McD for Niscushin and Mari H.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 6:41 pm

Kampfer for Ulf Dahlin is a trade I would still make! Addition by subtraction.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 6:45 pm

Fedor Tuytin for Mac. That is the best trade ever!!!!!!!!!! I miss that Tootin bastard.

Even with all the losses we’re still right on the bubble for the wildcard …. FIRST PIC WILL BE A LOOOONG LOOONG shot …. top 5 would be a long shot.Trade McD to Tampa and they will make a big run.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 6:51 pm

    I like Tony D but undersized for a D? 5 11 and 180……I see an issue here…

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 7:32 pm

Dream on … we’re not getting Dahlin unless Gorton finds a way to trade for two 1st rounders and packages our 1st rounder with them in exchange for the #1 pick — maybe. lol

      You’re right about Dahin.
The projected # 2 pic is that Russian Sveichnikov (forgive spelling) after that the pool is still deep, with Levin, Veleno, Merklley, Farabee, and my HOPE
Brady Tkachuk. Son of Keith, brother of Matt. can score, skate and has a mean streak just like his Daddy.

Let’s pull a Pens move on the NHL, dive as far as we can, to get at least a shot for the Dahlin kid. Those bast*rds in Pittsburgh did it twice, got Mario Le Wimp, then Cindy & Igor in the same draft. I hate them for that move, but we’re not going anywhere this season, let’s get into the sweepstakes and pray. You can’t win unless you play. Isn’t that what the lotto motto is!

2003 first overall Marc Andre Fleury
      2004 second overall Evgeni Malkin
      2005 first overall Sidney Crosby

I’m much younger than you but I can’t see in my lifetime the Rangers ever getting a sniff at drafting that kind of talent.

      • Feb 5, 2018 at 8:35 pm

        They also dove for Lemiuex!

        • Feb 5, 2018 at 8:44 pm

What I should have said was due to the lock out, they were a sweepstakes team, and got Malkin as well, after Ovie was drafted by the Caps. That was the same day they Cindy in the year befores draft. Bottom line they dove, positioned themselves to be lucky enough to get two great centers to come out the same year, after the lockout ended. There was no shame on their part, as far as their fans were concerned, so why not us, we’re long overdue for some good luck!

Honestly I don’t even know if that is the answer with the current cap system. You tank and land a generational talent like Dahlin. Then in a few years you need to commit 1/5th of you salary cap to that player. Look how Edmonton basically has tied 1 hand behind their back with McDavid. Toronto has all this young talent. Let’s see who else they can afford to play with Matthews once he gets his payday. I honestly don’t know what the answer is besides getting lucky and winning while your elite young talent are still on entry level contracts.

            • Feb 5, 2018 at 9:36 pm

The cap is a fraud upon the fans to benefit the owners. It almost makes me want to stop watching the NHL.

              • Feb 6, 2018 at 7:06 am

The cap was put in place due to tight assed cheap SOB’s, Snyder, & Jacobs in Boston. They pushed for it, and won, and this is the product we have to live with!

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 8:41 pm

Release or trade McLeod, the guy wouldn’t fight for his team when his team needed him the most, then why is he on this team right now? The Rangers should leave McLeod in Nashville after last game.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 8:43 pm

Now I know why AV didn’t win and will never win a Cup in NHL, because he “doesn’t want to get into trouble.” for his team.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 9:12 pm

Earning his keep … Guess he doesn’t wanna ride the pine tonight … Lol

    • Feb 5, 2018 at 11:01 pm

Desharnais scores the opener in a very entertaining First period.

  • Feb 5, 2018 at 9:28 pm

YES!!! David Desharnis scored a goal, Stanley Cup here we come!!!

  • Feb 6, 2018 at 12:02 am

Lightning sure could have used an extra top-2 defender tonight!

    • Feb 6, 2018 at 12:12 am

Give me 2 No.1 and some more for MacD.

  • Feb 6, 2018 at 12:49 am
