I think they have changed their game and this has led to the success. There seems to be a new mindset to chip and chase if they cant carry into the zone. Previously too many log stretch passes that resulted in turn overs in the N zone. Those mistakes caused our guys to be spread out and it became a free for all trying to get back and identify who to cover. At least now it forces the other team to travel the entire ice and our back check and D zone coverage is better. That in turn allows 5 guys back and the breakout has more support with short passes or touches. I think the eye test supports these comments. The PP has also made a difference in this streak.
I would keep Miller at center. I think he is more defensive minded and it seems he does well on faceoffs the majority of the time. I am not of the opinion that Hayes is the number 2 center and I think Miller gives deserves the chance to grow into that spot. All this talk that all we need is a true center, to me, is wishful thinking and means little. What top guy are we going to get? Little chance in that so lets concentrate on what we have and play with a purpose which seems to be happening now. Body on body, stick on stick. None of this fancy stuff.
