More darts at the board as blue line changes again

October 13, 2017, by

Alain Vigneault has thrown more darts at the board in an attempt to find defense pairs that “work” according to him.

Ryan McDonagh-Nick Holden
Marc Staal-Kevin Shattenkirk
Brady Skjei-Brendan Smith

I don’t know what dart he threw that made him think Holden and McDonagh would work. But at least Kampfer isn’t in the lineup. Nothing like trading your 1C for a healthy scratch defenseman, though.

Can you sense the snark, frustration, and hopelessness?

As long as Skjei/Smith are 2nd pair and Shattenkirk is PP1, I can live with it.

It’s roster mitigation, that’s for sure

The coaching staff must be literally throwing darts! HOLDEN with Mac?! Staal with Shatty?! God I hope this is AVs last season as our HC! Pretty much everything said in the article is what I’m thinking. So no need to repeat the entire thing.

I can’t skate with the puck; I can’t clear nor start a rush. That makes me an AV D man. Oh. And can’t / won’t fight

Holden is a shutdown defender. We know that based on the last 10 minutes of last years playoff games.

Mcd needs to roam, Holden allows that to happen.
Smith is now in game shape, so he plays.
DeAngelo obviously isn’t ready to return.

None of the above matters if we only score 1 goal tonight.

The team obviously see whats going on. Why give it your all when the coach is mental?

Could these first 2 lines be in place because of the blue jackets and the matchups somehow? Didn’t Holden play for Columbus? Like this really helps him and how he plays, 🙂

I hope the BS line can get it going, its important these 2 play well for us and not stink up the place.

(ya see what I did there, using BS and Stink together)

Yes, this was out yesterday. I’d prefer Tony D with Truck and Holden in the press box.

I figured either Smith or DeAngelo would have a chance to earn more PT today with the other one getting a chance tomorrow. Hopefully Smith plays as we and the management expected him to when he re-signed and knock Holden out of the lineup tomorrow.

Why don’t we just put another forward out there instead? Might be an improvement defensively. SMMFH

This continuing non sense regarding takes the focus off of the fact our offense stinks right now……….
Nash needs to capitalize on a few of his …what 20???…..golden-in close – non covered opportunities…….as does grabner……
Hayes needs to show up and play ….right now he is invisible, yet seems to have the size and skill to dominate…….
    Desharnais and the 4th line are brutal…… invisible………non factor….
[ Hindsight is 20/20 but……I said before the draft/trades……..protect lindberg……leave stepan unprotected ….now we have a potential 3rd line center in anderson in the minors and deangelo who we all knew would not play while AV is the coach!!!! ]
Then our 4th line would eventually be Letteri-Lindberg-Fast…….
Just saying and breaking chops…. Dylan McIlrath in 2 games has more goals -one- than derek stepan in 4 games – zero-

    • Spozo says:

So you would trade Anthony Deangelo and Lias Anderson for Lindberg right now? That’s essentially what you’re saying. You would trade those 2 for a 4th line center??

  8. Bloomer says:

Why not Staal will Shattenkirk? At least Staal knows how to play defence. Cbj has some rookies in the lineup. If AV is smart he play a safe close checking game and capitalize on their mistakes.

hahahaha …. checking game ? What’s this you speak of ?

  9. billyy1407 says:

Has anyone noticed that his tinkering with the lineup goes on through the entire season? Every year! I would think that by game 80 you would have a clue.

If we can stay 0-0 after the first shot we’re moving in the right direction !

Thank God I couldn’t watch the game and have to see McD playing with another stiff. Is McD the coach’s long lost step son?
