Rangers announce 2017 Traverse City roster

August 31, 2017, by

I’m a little delayed on this, but here is the roster for the 2017 Traverse City Tournament. The Rangers have participated in the event for the past 11 years. In each of those tournaments, at least one player in the tournament has played with the Rangers. This year appears to be no different, with a few kids fighting for roster spots on the TC roster.

The tournament kicks off on September 8, with the round robin portion ending on September 11. There will be at least one additional placement game on September 12.

Forwards:

Andersson, Lias
Carbonara, Adrian
Chytil, Filip
Fontaine, Gabriel
Gettinger, Tim
Gropp, Ryan
Kovacs, Robin
Leedahl, Dawson
Lettieri, Vinni
Moore, Ryan
Pettit, Kyle
Ronning, Ty
Smith, Luc
Stromwall, Malte

Defense:

Bereglazov, Alexei
Crawley, Brandon
Day, Sean
Kotyk, Brenden
Pedrie, Vince
Pionk, Neal
Zborovskiy, Sergey

Goalies:

Georgiev, Alexandar
Nell, Chris

    Will this be televised?

The choice of Kyle Pettit is interesting. 2014 sixth round choice of Vancouver, but still only 21. Have the Rangers done much of this in the past?

Incidentally, odd stats in juniors (Erie Otters) last year. Really leaped forward with 54 points in 66 games, but then two (ouch) in 22 playoff games. OTOH, two points in a championship run beats seven in a first round exit.

Pretty good roster, you hope that a lot of these guys spent more time with dry land training in the offseason.

As a bonus, no Gilmour to sear my retinas.

I started listing the players I was interested in seeing do well and mentioned just about all of them, so I stopped, lol.

    Big tourney for Gropp.

    • Reenavipul says:

Huge tourney for Gropp. Will have to continue his 2nd half and hopefully comes into the tourney weighing 205.

He(or almost any player) has skill, but without the proper mass it makes it tough to express that skill. Look at how Gettinger took off once he put on the right kind of weight.

They can talk about having development coaches to get these prospects ready, but I’m heading into the camp that having nutritionists supervising prospects to optimize their eating habits is more of a difference maker.

The repeated talk of his “success” in juniors due to Barzal is scary. Gropp needs to quiet that talk.

        • Reenavipul says:

It’s a two way street. Gropp had to go to the dirty parts of the ice to get those pucks from Barzal and he finally started doing it.

If he plays a perimeter game, he’s going nowhere even with the body of a Greek god.

Should we expect some amazing play from certain players? There’s two solid scoring lines and a decent top 4.

    • Reenavipul says:

Ryan Moore will be one to watch. A runt of a guy, but want to see what he does at this level. You obviously want to see everybody; but him, Carbonara & Pettit are the non 50 players to keep an eye on.

Nice roster of names we have been hearing have promise – should be interesting – really looking forward to seeing Sean Day
