Dreger: Rangers targeting Ondrej Pavelec

Per Darren Dreger, the Rangers are targeting Ondrej Pavelec to fill their backup goaltending void. The former Jet has a pretty bad rep, but has pretty solid numbers at even strength. That leads us to believe there were special teams issues in Winnipeg. That said, the Rangers also had PK issues, and it’s not like the Rangers have a strong blue line.

This is a classic eye test vs. numbers debate with Pavelec. Justin noted solid talent, but inconsistent technique/conditioning. Bad conditioning can be fixed, and Benoit Allaire can fix anyone’s technique. Pavelec will likely need to start 20 games for the Blueshirts, so let’s hope he just needs a change of scenery and some time with a solid goalie coach.

  1. Larry says:

It does not matter the players they have, as long as AV is the head coach, I don’t see the NYR would go to the Cup final again in his reign.

Check out AV’s playoff records in Van and the playoff records in NYR, you would see a pattern there, and it’s not a good one.

  2. 43 says:

How is this guy’s name pronounced? Andre Pav-el-ich?

  3. JoeS. says:

If anyone can handle this guy, it’s Allaire. nuff said!

  4. Swarty says:

I wouldv’e liked to see Nillson – if it is Pavelec then I think this will test the Benoit can fix anything theory
