Cory Schneider made 38 saves, many brilliant, as the Devils topped the Rangers 3-2 in overtime. Schneider was the story of the game, as the Rangers peppered him with quality shot after quality shot. But Schneider was the difference maker here. Antti Raanta was great as well, but he came up one save short.

The Rangers controlled the game from the get-go, using superior speed and skill to overwhelm a thin Devils squad. This was also a chippy game. With an all-out brawl highlighting the second period. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a passion-fueled brawl over the staged fights we are used to. Give me passion over staged fights any day.

As for the game, it’s not that important. The Rangers didn’t clinch yet. They will though.

On to the goals:

Devils 1, Rangers 0

The Rangers penalty kill faulted them again. This time J.T. Miller didn’t catch John Quenneville cutting from the point to the net. Easy tap-in once the pass got through.

Rangers 1, Devils 1

The Kid Line had a great shift here, working a cycle with Ryan McDonagh and Marc Staal. Eventually Pavel Buchnevich got room to skate behind the net and dish a great backhand pass to Oscar Lindberg, who buried it under Schneider.

Devils 2, Rangers 1

Nick Holden with the turnover. Taylor Hall with the finish.

Rangers 2, Devils 2

Rick Nash got off the schneid, planting himself in front on the powerplay and beating Schneider.

Devils 3, Rangers 2

McDonagh shot wide on the 3-on-3, which is always a recipe for disaster. That led to a 2-on-1 with an absolutely gassed Michael Grabner trying to get back. McDonagh overcommitted to Quenneville, who dished to Joseph Blandisi. Blandisi went around Raanta for the win.

Score Adjusted Corsi

The Rangers controlled the game from the get-go. It’s not just about the shot attempts either, as many of they were quality chances. Sometimes a goalie gets the best of you. On to the Isles and a chance to crush their playoff dreams. That would be fun.
