I was at the game last night, so there is no goal breakdown. With that in mind, I enjoy breaking out these Twitter breakdowns here and there. So let’s have at it.

Starting with the easy one, I hate the coaches challenge for plays like this. If the goal comes well after an “offside” call, then the entry had nothing to do with the goal. Also, the floating skate rule sucks. This wasn’t offside, and it changed the game completely.

Then again, the Rangers didn’t lose because of that call. They lost because the Caps are really good. There’s a reason why they are the best team in the league.

Toughness is such a stupid generalization. Tanner Glass or any other “tough guy” that can’t play won’t help. Jarome Iginla or Shane Doan or any other “tough guy with skill” that can’t skate anymore won’t help. The tough guys that help are Wayne Simmonds. That’s really it. He’s the niche.

All four of these tweets came up in my timeline at once. Fairly convenient. But this is a healthy reminder that despite his one bad play per game that you remember, Adam Clendening does a lot of good.

There are a lot of people that agree with Brandon’s take, and it’s a solid argument. As they stand, the Rangers won’t compete with Washington or Pittsburgh. Acquiring Brendan Smith with the intent to re-sign is one thing, and that’s fine. Selling Nick Holden will get those picks back, and Smith is better than Holden. I don’t think Brandon Pirri or Kevin Klein have much value, but considering the trades thus far, who knows. As for Rick Nash, if he’s moved, it won’t be until the expansion draft.

This has nothing to do with the Rangers but I laughed.

Smith will wear number 42.

While I’m sure some are upset over the loss, most of the attention is still on the trade deadline. There’s a lot to come. Stay tuned.
